Profile
The Bachelor of Education Degree course is mainly designed to prepare effective secondary school teachers to work in schools. The course essentially aims at helping student teachers become aware of certain new content, develop certain competencies and understand his/her multiple roles in the present context.
The course is geared to realise the following objectives and therefore shall attempt to develop in a student teacher.
Understanding of the essential foundations and basic principles of education.
Understanding the system, practices and the problems that accompanied the development of education in our country.
Understanding the nature and problems of secondary school children and ability to deal with them effectively.
Competencies for planning and execution of teaching learning and other concomitant educational Programme to be carried out in secondary schools.
Adequate content competency in two school subjects of specialisation so as to enable the student teacher to select, organise and teach the subjects effectively.
Understanding, appreciation and skills in respect of special approaches, learning experiences, methods and tools etc., adopted in curriculum planning, teaching and evaluation of the subjects of their specialisation.
Understanding of the general functioning and organisation of secondary schools and thereby acquire the ability to contribute towards effective curricular and co-curricular learning programmes in schools.
A spirit of experimentation towards the teaching-learning process.
A sound professional interest, attitude, ethics and a desire for continuous professional growth. Awareness for the need for extension activities in the community.
COURSES
Candidate shall choose any two-school subjects offered by the College for specialization in teaching under ED5 and ED6. One of the subjects chosen for specialization must have been studied as an optional.

Eligibility
a) No person shall be eligible for admission under these rules unless he/she is a citizen of India and unless the candidate has obtained a degree in Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science with atleast one language among Kannada, English, Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Marathi and atleast two subjects out of 03 electives among History, Pol. Science, Sociology, Geography, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Biology, English, Kannada, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi and Sanskrit (the subject taught in the High School and on which the methodology of teaching is based) as electives studied during all the three years of the course of study.
b) Candidates who have obtained a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from the Universities situated outside the Karnataka State should have studied atleast two electives specified in clause (a) of sub rule (4) in their three year course of study by appearing in one subject in the university examinations for atleast two years, in the principal subject for atleast three years only. And if there is any change of subject during the course of study of three years such candidates shall not be eligible for admission to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed., Course).
Provided further that the minimum marks for the purpose of qualification specified above shall be
i) Forty five percent marks in aggregate of three years of study in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST, Cat-I, Backward classes and Physically handicapped candidates as specified in the relevant orders issued by the State Government from time to time.
ii) Fifty percent in respect of other candidates.
c) Determination of Merit: For admission to B.Ed., course, the aggregate of marks obtained in all the three years examination in the B.A. or B.Sc., including languages and excluding internal marks and marks obtained in the class examination shall be taken into consideration while preparing merit list.
d) In-service candidates seeking admission for the Bachelor of Education shall conform to the eligibility conditions prescribed by the State Government from time to time provided that they satisfy the subject requirements stipulated in regulation of the university.
ALLOCATION OF SEATS
i. Colleges shall admit all the candidates allotted by the Government of Karnataka through Common Entrance Test (CET) or by any appropriate agency of the Government of Karnataka.
ii. For filling the other seats the respective college shall select the candidates following eligibility criteria as envisaged in Regulation 4.
iii. The college shall admit the selected candidates, both under Government quota and Management quota, within the last date fixed for admission by the Government.
iv. The total intake of B.Ed., college shall be 100 or as fixed by Government of Karnataka from time to time.
v. The total number of seats in each institution in both categories shall be so distributed as to ensure in any one methodology not less than 5 seats in each of the languages and not less than fifteen but not exceeding 30 seats in each elective subjects. It is also to keep open fifty percent of the seats for the candidates possessing degree in Science and fifty percent of candidates possessing degree in Arts, provided that if sufficient number of candidates in any one discipline, viz. Science or Arts are not available such seats shall be filled by candidates of either disciplines subject to the minimum and maximum specified in this rule under each methodology. How ever the University may relax and approve the admissions in the ratio of 25:75 and vice versa in Arts and Science disciplines in exceptional circumstances.
vi. Other Seats: The respective institutions shall invite applications from the eligible candidates for admissions in respect of other seats and fill up such seats in accordance with the eligibility criteria and merit. The list of admitted candidates shall be got approved by the University.
a) Provided further that in Science discipline sixty percent of seats shall be filled by PCM candidates and forty percent by CBZ candidates if sufficient number of candidates in any group viz. PCM or CBZ are not available such seats shall be filled by candidates of either group.
b) Provided also that the maximum and minimum limit in elective subjects shall not apply in the institution, which has provision for teaching either History or Geography as only method of teaching Arts group.
ATTENDANCE
As per UGC guidelines, shall deemed to have been completed course of Bachelor of Education if he/she has put in attendance of a minimum 80% of the total number of working periods under each subject in theory and practicum.
a) Candidates shall be required to keep additional term in the shortage of attendance exceeds the limit prescribed under Regulation -12 above in the subjects in which the shortage has been recorded. Such students who fail to complete the course with 80% attendance shall not be allowed to take the examination.
ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE THE EXAMINATION
A candidate shall appear at the final examination if he/she has satisfactorily completed the following additional work and has maintained proper records:
a) Participation in the Co-Curricular Programmes – Cultural, Physical Education – Organised by the College.
b) Participation in a field trip such as visit to Schools/Special Schools, Science Clubs/Museums.
c) Participation in seminars/symposia/programmes organized by the college for professional advancement.
d) Each student teacher has to compulsorily participate and submit a report on his participation in 3 days citizenship training camp exclusively conducted at a rural place by the College.
